Missions
Our Heart for Missions
At Horizon, we believe serving through missions is a vital part of following Christ. We support sent-out missionaries, partner with missionaries serving regionally and globally, and engage in local missions here in Fort Bend County. Through these efforts, we aim to reach like Jesus—serving all, bringing hope, and drawing people closer to God.

Belize Baptist Ministries
Freddy and Lisa Crook
Belize Baptist Ministries
Freddy and Lisa’s ministry, with Will and Lakyn helping, is called Belize Baptist Ministries. They are currently working in the village of Cotton Tree, which has a very diverse population that includes the ethnic groups Mayan, Kriol, Garifuna, Mestizo, East Indian, and Taiwanese. Each of these groups carries its own background beliefs, creating a challenging ministry environment. Their ministry includes Women’s Bible Study classes and outreach, a youth group, a school student sponsorship program, tutoring and mentoring classes, martial arts classes, preschool development classes, and seminary classes. The Crooks are very thankful for the prayers and support from individuals and churches willing to join them in this work — co-laborers with God helping to advance His Kingdom and establish the Truth in the hearts of many who have never heard it.
Will and Lakyn Pollard
Belize Baptist MinistriesHorizon is the informal sending church for Will and Lakyn. Lakyn is Freddy and Lisa’s daughter and works in America as a contract nurse. The Pollards fund most of their mission work with that. They work with Freddy and Lisa in their Belize Baptist Ministry, primarily working with the youth and doing a karate outreach in the village.

In regions where the gospel is restricted, our missionaries work discreetly to share the hope of Jesus with those who may never have had the opportunity to hear it. Through their faithful presence and service, they’re building relationships, supporting communities, and planting seeds of faith in challenging environments. We invite you to join us in prayer for their safety, strength, and for open hearts to receive God’s love in these closed areas.

Jodie and Gabby Vesely
Russian Ministries Online & HeartWay:
Pastor and Missionary CaregiversSince Jodie is our Care Pastor and Gabby is our Kids’ Director, you probably know them quite well. However, you may not know all of the extra they do in their ministry outside of Horizon. Jodie leads some Zooms each week with Russians in Bible studies and discussions. Also, Jodie and Gabby both offer several services to all missionary and ministerial families through their HeartWay ministry, with a special focus on biblical counseling and an annual TCK Transition Seminar to help missionary kids. Currently, the Vesely’s biggest need is $3,300 needed to make a trip to Russia.

Alaska
James and Stacey Shields
Alaska
After the ABA annual meeting, the Shields resumed their services, partnering with a Christ-centered coffee shop. While it adds $600 a month to their budget, the atmosphere feels like a perfect fit. They have had three profess salvation and a desire to be baptized. James visited the only Native Alaskan reservation this summer where he was able to invest many hours of biblical teaching and followed that up with baptism. Their family has also engaged with a local tabletop gaming non-profit organization, making new friends and reaching out to those in need. Despite emotional lows, they’ve been blessed with a new (to them) vehicle, which helps their schedules significantly. They’ve been unable to sell our home and decided to stay through the winter while renting the other side to help with costs. Subsequently, they’ve made various preparations for the winter, including purchasing a self-propelled snow blower and upgrading our garage to protect our vehicles from the cold.

Greg and Amy Devine
Texas – Lake Jackson
God continues to bless the opportunities opened through the Pregnancy Help Center ministry, providing monthly chances to connect with young men and women in need of guidance. The Tuesday night Bible study class has embraced the wisdom of God’s Word, particularly regarding being husbands and fathers, paving the way for spiritual discussions. On September 1st, Coastal Way Baptist Church held a worship service and baptism at Surfside Beach, marking significant milestones since their establishment. This event sparked conversations with beachgoers, showcasing their outreach efforts. Additionally, during the National Night Out event at McClean Park, Coastal Way set up a diaper changing station, fostering community connections. They hope to explore more outreach opportunities along the 288 corridor, recognizing that many are open to friendly conversations about faith.

Kolt and Amy Mackrill
Romania
Kolt Mackrill, along with his wife Amy and their three daughters —Layla (11), Eliza (9), and Vivian (5)— is sent out by Langdon Street Baptist Church in Somerset, KY. Recently, in their desire to plant a church, they welcomed two first-time visitors to their evening service and have had many opportunities to share the gospel, praying for the visitors’ salvation. Kolt is also assisting a sister church 45 minutes away that is currently without a pastor. They request prayer for the church’s search for a new leader and for its spiritual growth. Their humanitarian efforts are thriving as well, helping five families in need. During visits, they share meals, prayers, and the Gospel. One family’s daughters have begun attending church and inviting others. Please pray for their salvation! Thank you for your support!

Ride for God & New York City
Brandon and Diana Rutherford
Ride for God & New York CityIn recent months, the focus for the Rutherfords has been on the Orlando RFG ministry and preparing for the NYC survey trip, where they feel God has called them to plant a church. Brandon has dedicated significant time to mentoring young adults in Calvary Baptist Church in Orlando, which is his sending church, teaching them about leadership and transitioning responsibilities to them. While this emotional process is challenging, it is essential for growth. The Rutherfords’ biggest need is for more funds to take a 3-month survey trip to NYC. Recently, Brandon has been traveling to various churches and events sharing about his ministry. Afterwards, he returned to Florida to support his family during Hurricane Milton and is grateful for minimal damage. Thank you for the prayers and support!

Haiti
Kevin and Emelie Falde
Haiti
In recent years, the Falde’s ministry has engaged with Haitians in the Dominican Republic due to border closures and gang activity making travel to Haiti impossible. This effort has led to the construction of five new church buildings, the establishment of the El Roi home for teen mothers, and the creation of mission apartments. A group of pastors formed Parakaleo Dominicana, recognized by the D.R. government for church planting and overseeing the El Roi Home. Recently, challenges arose when the president of Parakaleo D.R. refused to step down and attempted to seize control of ministry assets. Fortunately, through prayer and grace, he returned the vehicles and is transferring responsibilities back to the team. As Kevin and Emelie continue a short furlough to connect with supporting churches, they remain grateful for the encouragement received. Please pray for the adoption process, which made progress last week, for resolution in the Dominican Republic situation, for Emelie’s mother, Linda, who is hospitalized, for the future of Haiti and its suffering people.
